why you should join NYSCEA

NYSCEA meets to learn about the latest initiatives and issues impacting the education of the students of New York State, as well as to find common ground and formulate collective positions regarding those initiatives and issues. It also serves to develop announcement unifying activities among member organizations that have common interests, functions, and purposes.

Information:

NYSCEA offers members the opportunity to learn first hand about current activities of the NY State Education Department. To see how State Education Department representatives inform NYSCEA members, check out Presentations from NYSCEA’s last meeting.

Communication:

In addition to presentations, each meeting offers discussion sessions with NYS Education Department (NYSED) leaders. Past NYSED guests have included: Commissioner of Education, Deputy Secretary of Education, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Education, and many other Assistant Commissioners. There have also been sessions with representatives of the Board of Regents, and Legislative Education Committees from both the state and federal levels. Meetings are also structured to facilitate communication among member organizations in order to clarify common, as well as unique, concerns; and to arrive at consensus regarding important issues.

Collaboration:

As they communicate with NYSED leaders, NYSCEA Members often discover ways to collaborate with the State and with each other. NYSCEA conducts special work sessions and committees which are designed to address specific common issues. These sessions provide unifying activities among members that have common interests, and advocacy opportunities for organizations with specialized shared needs whenever and wherever necessary and appropriate.
