UNICEF Youth Essay Contest

The Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) invites youth throughout the U.S. to participate in its first nationwide Essay Contest. The contest is sponsored by the Campaign's Youth Outreach Committee and will run for the entire month of September. Additional information on the contest is contained in the CRC Essay Contest Guidelines. Essays must be typed directly into the CRC Essay Contest Application and submitted, as an email attachment, to crcessay@yahoo.com by October 1, 2007.

The contest is open to Middle School and High School students with two first place prizes of $250. More details: MS Word | PDF

NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence

The NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes and rewards the excellence demonstrated by NEA members nationwide. All NEA members, including teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff, are eligible for the award. More details.

 

Closing the Achievement Gap

Many economically disadvantaged and minority students do not have the same opportunities for academic success as their more affluent peers. With support from The NEA Foundation, partnerships led by NEA affiliates, school districts, and community organizations will take action to accelerate the achievement rate for disadvantaged and minority students, while raising achievement for all groups of students. Learning Technology Grant Program

It is anticipated that grant funding in the amount of $3.29 million will be available to support the development and implementation of collaborative learning technology projects to improve teaching and learning. Students attending nonpublic schools can benefit from partnership between the public and nonpublic schools pursuant to the regulations promulgated by the Commissioner of Education.

Dow Awards

The Dow Chemical Company has made available $20 million in grant funds to support proposed initiatives concentrating on math and science, teacher training, and parental involvement for K-12 school districts. Grant proposals should focus on giving K-12 students science and engineering experiences, giving teachers the training to provide these experiences, and fostering parental and community involvement. School districts and school boards nationwide, as well as programs that promote systemic education reform in math and science, are eligible to apply. Special attention is given to school districts around communities where Dow is located. Application Deadline: Varies.

Edward W. Hazen Foundation

Application Deadline: None - rolling program

The Edward W. Hazen Foundation focuses on assisting children and youth,
particularly minorities and those disadvantaged by poverty, to achieve their
full potential as individuals and as active participants in a democratic
society. The Foundation's two major programs address public education and
youth development. The public education program, focused on fostering
effective schools for all children and full partnership for parents and
communities in school reform efforts, primarily supports community-based and
grassroots organizations in Baltimore, District of Columbia, Philadelphia,
New York City, Miami, the Mississippi Delta, Chicago, Los Angeles and El
Paso. The youth development program, focused on youth organizing and
leadership development around concrete social issues, provides support for
nonprofit organizations throughout the country. Letters of inquiry are

NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Education

Learning and Leadership Grants
Amount: The grant amount is up to $2,000 for individuals and up to $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study. Eligible Applicants: Applicants must be practicing US public school teachers in grades K-12, public school education support professionals, or higher education faculty and staff at public colleges and universities. Preference will be given to members of the National Education Association.

Innovation Grants
Applications are reviewed three times per year- September 15, February 1, and June 1. Amount: Up to $5,000. Eligible Applicants: Public school teachers in grades K-12, public school education support professionals, or higher education faculty and staff at public colleges and universities.

Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools Invites Proposals from State Coalition

The Campaign for the Civic Missions of Schools offers opportunities for youth to gain civic education experiences during their K-12 school years. A major component of the campaign focuses on education policy at the state and local levels. In that connection, the campaign has issued an RFP seeking applications from state-level coalitions for grants in two categories. Applicants should represent state coalitions of education and civic engagement stakeholders along with other interested parties.
